    The law defines parental involvement as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities.

    We talk about identifying the principles of father involvement. Discuss why some fathers are involved in a child’s education and development while others are not and how father involvement improves a child’s well being.
    We discuss strategies for getting involved with your child’s school and conclude with resourcesthat will assist fathers in gaining knowledge and support to increase their involvement in the school and their student’s academic success.

  • *Elementary School Success - What Parents Should Know*

    We will give you a better understanding of how to support the school aged child. We talk about Children's mental and emotional development, the importance of peer relationships and independence. We also discuss how to help the elementary child meeting new academic challenges.

  • *Grandparents Raising Grandchildren*

    Along with the rewards of raising your grandchild, there are many challenges you will face along the way. There are currently over 35,000 children in the state of Kentucky that are being raised by his/her grandparents, so you are not alone. The areas that we will cover in this session will help you prepare to meet some of the challenges that you may be presented with.
  • *High School Success: What Parents Should Know*

    During this session we will explore ways to help you prepare and know what to expect as your child makes the leap to high school.
    The objectives for this session will include:

    • Making the move to High School
    • How to help your child meet new academic challenges
    • We will be discussing your children’s physical, mental and emotional changes
    • We will be talking about the role of peer relationships
    • We will discuss what you can do as their parent and maintaining a strong relationship with your child.

    In addition, we will provide you with resources to support you and your family through these developmental milestones.
  • *Involved Parents - A Key to Student Success in School*

    In this session we will be discussing how to make the most of the important role you play in your child’s education.

    These are the objectives for our session:
    • What role you can play in your child’s education;
    • How you can help your child learn daily;
    • How you can help with homework, without doing the work for your child;
    • How you can be involved in your child’s school;
    • How you can improve education in your community.

  • *Middle School Success: What Parents Need to Know*

    This is a list of our objectives for the time we have together
    Today we are going to talk about:
    • Making the Leap from Elementary to Middle School
    • We will share some Common Concerns you may have.
    • We will talk about the New Academic Challenges your student will be facing.
    • We will talk briefly about your child’s physical, mental and emotional changes,
    or Body & Mind.
    • We will talk about the Role of Friends and Peer Pressure in Middle School and,
    • We will talk about how to Maintaining a Strong Relationship with your child.
    This training will provide you with a glimpse of the school discipline codes, dress codes
    and homework policies. Let them know that they sign forms and return them that say they
    have read and understand the policy.
  • *Parenting for Nutrition and Fitness*

    Throughout the Parenting for Nutrition and Fitness session, we will explore several areas that will help you learn about nutrition and fitness for children and how good nutrition and fitness is connected with the academic success your child can experience in school. The objectives that we will discuss during this workshop are:
    • Helping your child make good choices about nutrition and fitness.
    • Benefits of indoor and outdoor activities.
    • The connection between nutrition, fitness and school success.
  • *Parenting for Violence Prevention*

    Children are exposed to many experiences in their normal day to day living that can impact how they deal with conflict. Throughout the Parenting for Violence Prevention session, we will explore the factors that can influence and promote violence in children as well as strategies to help your child resolve conflict. Specifically, we will be looking at the following objectives in this workshop:
    • How media and peer influence can promote violence.
    • Teaching children how to handle anger.
    • Conflict resolution and communication skills.
    • Warning signs parents need to be aware of to prevent violence.
  • *Preparing a Child for Kindergarten*

    These are the objectives for the session:
    • What will my child learn in Kindergarten?
    • Is my child ready for Kindergarten?
    • Your home is a learning place
    • Getting to know your child’s school
    • The basics of school registration
    • Tips for the first day of Kindergarten

    We will talk about what your child will learn in Kindergarten, discuss signs of “readiness”, and how you can use daily activities at home to teach your child new skills.
    Then we will look at visiting the school environment and finally wrap up with what is needed for registration, first day and some tips for a smooth transition.
  • *Preparing Your Child for Reading*

    The objectives for today’s session are to help you:
    Build a Strong Foundation for Reading
    Become Involved in Your Child’s Reading
    Make Reading a Family Routine
    And give you Strategies to Make Reading Fun for your child.
